Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman
President
People's Republic of Bangladesh

I convey my deep respect to the memory of the great architecht of Independent Bangladesh the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on his historic ‘Homecoming Day’.

In the history of our independence, the contribution of Father of the Nation is unique. He proclaimed independence at the early hour of March 26, 1971 just before being arrested by the Pakistani forces. After being arrested he was confined in the Pakistan prison. He was inhumanly tortured and ordered for death sentence in a farcical trial. But Bangalee’s victory as well as world pressure compelled the Pakistan Govt. to release him from imprisonment. At last, the popular leader of the Bangalee and Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Skeikh Mujibur Rahman returned to the newly born independent homeland after being freed from Pakistani prison on this memorable day in 1972. After facing deadly challenges of life for his heroic leadership in various struggles for country’s independence, the great leader returned to independent Bangladesh which was his life-long dream and the highest achievement of his struggle and the people from all walks of life became overwhelmed with joy and enthusiasm. Returning from the gallows, on this day, the great leader of Bangalee nation uttered with emotion at the then Race Course Maidan, “My lifelong dream comes true. Today Bangladesh is free and sovereign. The independence that we have achieved let not be harmed till the last Bangalee remains alive”.

Our great leader Bangabandhu, on that day, urged all to build a `Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal). I am confident that we shall be able to materialise the dream of Bangabandhu by rendering our respective duties imbued with the spirit of patriotism.

I call upon all irrespective of party affiliation to work unitedly to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh

Khoda Hafez, May Bangladesh Live Forever.

Md. Zillur Rahman
