Describing Belgium as the
important destination of Bangladesh's export
goods, President Iajuddin also expressed the
hope that the bilateral trade between the two
countries will grow further in the days to come.
He also requested the Belgium government to
reopen the Belgium embassy in Dhaka to increase
development cooperation and boost the existing
volume of trade between the two countries.
Professor Iajuddin sought the cooperation of
ambassador in establishing university linkage
and professionals-experts exchange programmes
between Dhaka and Brussels.
He appreciated the goal of Belgium International
Cooperation in Bangladesh in poverty alleviation
and achieving sustainable development and
requested the Belgium government to include
Bangladesh in the new list of recipient
countries for Belgium development assistance.
The President briefed the ambassador about the
preparation of the government and the Election
Commission to hold a free, fair and credible
election by December this year.
The new Belgian ambassador expressed his
satisfaction over the present relations between
Dhaka and Brussels and hoped that the relation
would be strengthened further in the days to
come.
Deboutte Jean-Marie also welcomed the
Bangladesh's efforts to hold free, fair and
neutral general elections by December this year.
Military Secretary to the President Major
General Mohd Aminul Karim, Secretary Md Sirajul
Islam, Foreign Secretary Touhid Hosain and Press
Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present.
Earlier, on his arrival at Bangabhaban, a smart
contingent of President's Guard Regiment gave
the Belgian ambassador a guard of honor. |
