EC delegation apprises President of progress in holding election by Dec

A delegation of the Election commission led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr ATM Shamsul Huda today called on President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban here today.

Election Commissioners Mohammad Suhul Hossain and Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhwat Hossain and secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Muhammad Humayan Kabir were present.


Emerging out of the meeting, the CEC told the awaiting journalists that they apprised the President of the EC's different activities including the progress in preparing electoral roll aimed at holding the next general elections
according to the road map, announced earlier by the EC.

He said that they told the President that EC is hopeful to finalize the electoral roll with photographs by October this
year, as the 83 percent of the voters in the country have already been enrolled.

"We hope a total of seven crore voters, out of estimated eight crore will be enrolled within 17 th of this month and the
rest by June this year," he added.

The delegation also apprised the President of the EC's preparation for holding the next general election by December this year," he added.

The CEC said, the delegation briefed the President about the delimitation of constituencies and demonstrated a power point presentation on the delimitation before the President during the meeting.

"We are pursuing the specific policy, rules and regulations under the provisions of the constitution and the exiting electoral laws on delimitation of constituencies," he said.

"There is no scope of losing neutrality in this connection," he added.

Dr ATM Shamsul Huda said, the President gave a patient hearing to them and witnessed the power point demonstration on delimitation of constituencies.

The CEC said, the President expressed his satisfaction at the activities of the EC to hold general elections according to the road map.

Military Secretary to the President Major General Mohd Aminul Karim, Secretary of the President's Office Md Sirajul Islam and Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present.
