Independence Day parade turns into unique eye-catching event

Army and Air Force jets flew past emitting coloured smokes while armed forces staged impressive parade when President Professor Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed took the salute at the National Parade Square here as Bangladesh celebrated its 37th anniversary of independence today.

Bewitching show by two Air Force jets, F7 and Mig- 29, and their victorious exit, combat helicopter flew past at a low altitude, army commandos appearance with parachutes carrying the national flag and standards of the President and the Chief Adviser made the Independence and National Day Parade an eye-catching unique event for the audience.

The army, navy, air force, paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Coast Guard, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police, Ansar, National Cadet Corps and the 1971 Liberation War veterans took part in the spectacular march past.

Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed,Chief Justice Mohammad Ruhul Amin, advisors of the caretaker government, political leaders, foreign diplomats,senior civil and military officials and distinguished citizenswitnessed the Independence and National Day parade.

Liberation War Affairs Adviser Major General (retd) MA Matin along with Chief of Bangladesh Army General Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Bangladesh Navy Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Marshal Shah Mohammad Ziaur Rahman welcomed the President as bugles heralded his arrival at the scene marking the start of the ceremony.

An 11-member delegation of former Indian army officials who took part in the Bangladesh's War of Liberation in 1971 also witnessed the Independence and National Day parade for the first time. Lieutenant General (Rtd) J F R Jackob, former Chief of Staff of Eastern Command of Indian Army during Bangladesh's War of Independence led the Indian team.

The parade kicked off with the fly past by Army Aviation and salute by the flag bearing helicopter of Army Aviation and Bangladesh Air Force to the President as parade commander Major General Mohammad Ashab Uddin ceremonially obtained the Presidential nod for its start after the national anthem was played. Colonel GS M Hamidur Rahman led the Army Aviation fly past.

National Standard Bearer Contingent led by Major Mohammad Shahidul Abedin, Freedom Fighters' Contingent led by senior warrant Officer (retd) Md Shawkat Ali, Presidents Guard Regiment (PGR) Contingent led by Lt Colonel Md Shamimur Rahman, Fighting Arms Contingent led by Lieutenant Colonel Md Zakir Hossain, Supporting Arms Contingent led by Lieutenant Colonel AKM Shamsul Islam, Services Contingent led by Lieutenant Colonel gazi Md Khalid Hossain, Para Comando Contingent led by Major SM Raquib Ibne Rezwan, Bangladesh Navy Contingent led by Commandar M Towheedul Islam, Bangladesh Air Force Contingent led by Wing Commandar Shaheed Al-Mamun, BNCC led Major safiqul Islam, Bangladesh Riffles led by Lieutenant Colonel Md Asif Abdur Rouf, Bangladesh Coast Guard Contingent led by Commandar Mohammad asraf Uddin, Combined Police Contingent led by Superintendent of Police Sk Md Mizanur Rahman, Bangladesh Ansar Contingent led by Assistant Director Md Fakrul Islam, Conbined Wemen and Police and Village Diffence Oarty led by Senior Assistant Super of Police Abida Sultana, Army Hoarse- Mounted Contingent led by Captain Am Ekhlasur Rahman, Police Hoarse Mounted Contingent led by Police Inspector Md Faruk Sheikh and Free Fall team led by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Touhidul Islam saluted the President at the podium.

They were followed by combined mechanized columns led by Lieutenant Colonel Md Jahangir Hassan. Military police motor bikers, tanks with lowered barrels, artillery vehicles including air defense canons and navy mechanical units including torpedo columns.

A combined band party of different forces marked the end of the ceremonial military parade by marching past the podium.

The Parade Square was tastefully decorated with colourful balloons, ribbons and flowers while portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and other independence and national leaders and seven Bir Shresthas were prominently displayed at the background of the dais on the parade ground.
