President for boosting Dhaka- Jakarta economic ties

Outgoing Ambassador of Indonesia to Bangladesh Warmas Hasan Saputra today paid farewell call on President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban here today.

During the meeting, the President expressed his satisfaction at the present bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Indonesia and thanked the outgoing ambassador for his outstanding performance in further developing and strengthening the ties between Dhaka and Jakarta.

The President said Bangladesh attaches great importance to her relations with Jakarta and considers it to be a friendly country, which is working in different international forums, including the UN, OIC and NAM, together.


He also express his satisfaction at the present trade and economic relations between the two counties and hoped that the relation between the two countries would be develop further for the mutual benefit of the both, as huge scopes of enhancing bilateral trade remain unutilized.

In this regard, the President recalled the meeting of the joint commission of the two countries in 2007 and said Indonesian people could be benefited using Bangladeshi goods, including pharmaceutical and jute products.

The President also laid importance on enhancing cultural and educational exchange and university linkage programmes between the two countries as they benefit students, teachers and scholars of both Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Professor Iajuddin also thanked the Indonesian government for their strong support to Bangladesh's bid for membership of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

The Indonesian envoy thanked the President and the government for providing cooperation to him in discharging duties during his office in Bangladesh.

Hasan thanked the people of Bangladesh for their hospitality, courage and patient and saw huge potentials of Bangladesh. He was very much hopeful that the country would achieve its aspired development soon and the next general elections would be held by December this year.

He praised Bangladesh for its role in the UN Peacekeeping Mission as one of the largest troop contributing countries.

Military Secretary to the President Major General Mohd Aminul Karim, Secretary of the President's Office Md Sirajul Islam and the President's Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present.
