Iajuddin calls
upon teachers-students to build knowledge- based
society

President Professor Dr
Iajuddin Ahmed today called upon the teachers
and the students to engage themselves in pursuit
of knowledge to build a knowledge- based society
fit for coping with the present competitive
world.
"The role of the teachers is to inspire the
sense of consciousness of students with a view
to flourishing their intrinsic value and spirit.
The students also should have to keep in mind
that the university is the vast arena of
learning where they should have to devote
themselves in quest of knowledge," he added.

The President said this while speaking at
the 2nd convocation of the Southeast
University at the Bangladesh- China
Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) at
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar here.
Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain
Zillur Rahman spoke as special guest.
Justice Mustafa Kamal addressed as
convocation speaker.
Vice-Chancellor of Southeast University Dr
M. Shamsher Ali, Chairman of the board of
governors of the university Mohammad Rezaul
Karim also spoke on the occasion.
Military Secretary to the President Major
General Mohd Aminul Karim, Secretary of the
President's Office Md Sirajul Islam and
Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were
present.
Professor Iajuddin said the learning of
higher education is a two- way interaction
where both teachers and students share their
knowledge and enrich each other in a
congenial atmosphere.
He, however, said this cannot be effectively
achieved without the assistance and
dedication of the esteemed teachers and
scholars.
"The highest facilities would not enough to
enhance one's intellectual capacities unless
one is prepared and willing to utilize the
available opportunities for self appraisal
and development," he said.
Describing Bangladesh as a land of immense
potentials, he said the country from the
time immemorial, people from around the
globe visited this land luring into its
endless beauty and natural resources of the
country.
Professor Iajuddin said Bangladesh is not
only endowed with natural beauty and diverse
culture but also enriched with knowledge and
excellence.
"Our potential human resources,
professionals both at home and abroad are
putting their creativity and sincere
endeavours and have acclaimed huge
reputation from the world community.
Mentioning the name of some great sons of
the soil including Atish Dipanker, Sir
Jagadish Chandra Basu, Poet Jashim Uddin,
Artist Zainul Abedin, Nobel Laureate Prof.
Muhammad Yunus, he said they have glorified
themselves as well as the nation through
their great contributions.
"We have to go ahead by following the noble
qualities of theses illustrious sons of the
soil and would have to uphold
their splendid deeds and contributions to
the new generation," he added.
President Iajuddin also reminded the
students of their social responsibility and
said they must live up to the expectations
of the people and must abide by truth,
honesty, fortitude at every stage of their
life imbued with the sense of patriotism
during the time of discharging duties," he
said.
Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman laid emphasis on
imparting quality education to face the
global challenge and discover the country's
potential to build a prosperous nation.
He also underscored the need for developing
a new Information Communication Technology (ICT)
policy to ensure optimum use of IT in
acquiring knowledge and achieving the
country's development in different fields.
