Tax ombudsman submits annual report to President

The annual report of Tax Ombudsman's Office for the year 2007 was submitted to President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban here today.

Tax Ombudsman Khairuzzaman Chowdhury handed the report to the President and apprised him of its various aspects.

The tax ombudsman told the President that a total of 95 allegations were received in 2007 and 34 of them were registered with the office. The remaining 61 allegations were found not specific, anonymous and outdated.
 

He said the office disposed of a total of 29 allegations, out of 39 registered, including five of the previous year.

Since its inception, the office has registered a total of 42 allegations till December 31, 2007 and 33 of them have been settled, he said.

Khairuzzaman hoped that the Tax Ombudsman's Office would contribute to ensuring transparency and accountability of the National Board of Revenue.

Secretary to the President Md Sirajul Islam, Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader and senior officials of the Tax Ombudsman's Office were present.
