President, PM call for protecting women's rights

President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today called upon all to work together for protecting women's rights.

They made the call through separate messages on the occasion of International Women's Day and its centenary.

President Zillur Rahman in his message said, "It is impossible to face the challenges of the 21st century putting aside the womenfolk. It is our earnest duty to protect women's right at all levels of the society as well as the state."

He urged all to work together in protecting women's rights.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said, "Our constitution provides equal rights for women and men. As per the election pledge, the government is committed to build a progressive and discrimination- free society based on equality of women and men."

She called the theme of the day "Equal rights and opportunity for women and men is a commitment for development and changing the days" a befitting one.

Wishing success of the day, Sheikh Hasina called upon all to work unitedly to ensure women's participation in the mainstream of national development for further women empowerment and establishing their equal rights.
